Æluropædia

Published 29 November MMXXV

I have a bunch of cats. So many, in fact, I once tried making a Fandom wiki on them about a decade ago. It had a basic (I think?) description of them, along with the wild cats outside and the neighbor's, accompanied with sillily edited stock images of races of cats. This wiki went mostly well for the time being, until it got deleted by Fandom some time later because such personal wikis are not allowed on the site. Ever since then, I haven't had the motivation to make another such wiki like that one, until now. Thankfully, I now own a site that, at least according to the rules of Lunarsphere I know of, does not prohibit hosting such personal information. Thus, this is a page talking about all the cats that frequent my backyard, of which there are five at the time of writing.

The name aeluropaedia derives from a portmanteau of the Greek αἴλουρος aílouros, meaning cat, and encyclopaedia, which is a book that describes things, a more "antique version" of the wiki. Of course, this would mean an encyclopaedia about cats, or in this case my cats. It is pronounced "eeluropedia" /iːluːroʊˈpiːdiːə/.

Also, this page was written almost entirely while looping the animation meme Messages from the Stars by Fluffykun in the corner of my screen. Originally I wanted to try getting the record for the longest continuously looped furry animation in a community/friend group I'm in, currently held by Marutino's four hours straight of looping Kandi Raver by BlueErrør. After some time I realized that getting the record was somewhat unfeasible and ended up doing "only" a bit over two thirds of that time (2:40:32) just for the fun of it, getting third place. It is worth noting that I am not a furry.[dubious–discuss]

Note: if you're curious for the exact time they were taken, all the images have timestamps in the file names which are in UTC−03.

Preta

Born in February 2012, Preta is the oldest one of the bunch, daughter of Bia. I originally named her Luíza after the house janitor, following the trend of naming my cats after other people I knew, but I ended up dropping the name as the rest of my family kept calling her Preta. The word preta in Portuguese means black, as she was the darkest of her fully white siblings, with the exception of her brother Marcelo.

After 2018, she became much more "agitated", meowing extremely loud when she needed food and company. According to my mother this might be due to an irritation she has somewhere. It could also be due to the loneliness she endured from 2017–2018. No, I'm not telling you what happened during that time, but know that it was pretty mundane. We really couldn't have predicted this outcome.

Along with Térbio, she is one of the two cats that never leave the backyard. Occasionally though, she leaves and becomes stuck on the roof when we accidentally leave a ladder leading to the house roof. She is also the only one permitted to go inside the house, although Térbio also sometimes wanders inside when the door is left open. She really likes sleeping under the oven.

Preta and Marcelo are the only ones remaining of Bia's offspring. Many of the others disappeared one day, while Bia herself and Angelita died to skin cancer (mainly due to their super white skin and fur).

Marcelo

One of Preta's siblings, being from the August 2012 litter. Marcelo was named after one of my classmates and (still!) best friend. While he was originally friendly before the events of 2018, he is now much more fearful of every person but my mother. It's still possible to take close photographs and even touch him if you're approaching him discreetly enough, though.

His primary anomalous effect is that upon taking a digital photograph, the colors within a bounding box around him are inverted. Browsing through old photographs, this appears to have begun after the events of 2018. This effect is not persistent and can easily be edited out. Any specular image is affected; when taking a photograph of a mirror showing his reflection, his bounding box on the mirror has its colors inverted. Sufficiently diffuse reflections are unaffected.

Branquinho

Unrelated to Bia's family, born in 2019. I originally called him Tennessino, after the radioactive element tennessine, but just like Preta I settled for his current, more normal name, Branquinho, which means white (diminutive) in Portuguese. Just like Marcelo, he is quite fearful of every person but my mother, although less so than Marcelo. I can approach him more easily than my father can.

During 2025, he became a chonker quite overweight. This is because he keeps eating the food from the other cats. He is sometimes referred to as "a leech" due to this.

He had a sibling, born in the same year, which I named Oganesson, also after the radioactive element. He was a siamese cat, similar to Preta and Térbio. He died in August 2021 due to an infection. I somehow managed to forget about this for about a year, being reminded when I pointed out his disappearance to my mother.

Thor

Branquinho's nephew, but born in the same year. Just like him, I originally gave him the name of a radioactive element, this time Urânio (Uranium), before receiving his more normal name, Thor. Despite this name, he is commonly bullied by all the other cats, due to being the "beta" and still trying to chase females outside, as well as being weaker in general. On one of these fights in early 2025, he lost his left eye.

Except for maybe Marcelo, he is the one that spends the least time in the backyard. He is also very rarely seen together with the others; I do remember seeing all of them "near each other" at the same time, with Thor up high, unreachable by the others, but didn't get a photograph.

He had a sibling, born in the same year, which I named Lancaster. He had white fur, similar to Branquinho. He died sometime after. No one knows the cause, he just went missing one day.

Térbio

The wildest one. Before the accident, he lived outside the house, being called William by my mother, after Prince William due to his similarity with another siamese wild named Kate after Prince William's wife, Queen Catherine. He is very confusable with Preta, both being siamese. His distinguishing features are that he has a rounder face and his fur is of a lighter color.

He lost his left hind leg in an accident. It's unknown what it was; he could've been ran over, his leg could've gotten stuck in a sliding gate etc. All I know is that one day in late 2021 my mother found him with his leg missing all its flesh, after him having been missing for a while. Obviously, it had to be amputated and he had to stay at our house. During 2022, he stayed isolated from all the others to let him recover from the surgery. After that though, he was released into the backyard. His very first interaction with another cat besides Preta after being released was violently attacking Thor right at the backyard door.

Unlike all of the "weird" names I gave, this one stuck. Before this, he was named Três Patinhas (three paws), but after performing a mass propaganda campaign I managed to convince my parents to call him Térbio. The name Térbio isn't just a random element (Terbium); it was chosen from a simplification of the more normal name, transformed into the name of an element because of course I would.

This is a similar case to Spica, a wild cat that died on October 26th 2024, euthanized after having suffered from a disease for a long time by that point. She had primarily very fluffy black fur with a white mark on her neck, with her main distinguishing trait being that her tongue always stuck out slightly. Her name is the simplication of "white dot" in Armenian (սպիտակ կետ spitak ket), referring to the said mark, transformed into the name of a star.
