Flying gamemode tilt

Published 16 January MMXXVI
Example at 2000 FPS; the Ship should be pointing downwards.

This is probably the least 2026 Minersphere page released in 2026.

Within the impossible levels of Geometry Dash, there is often a phaenomenon that occurs at very high frame rates where the rotation of the four flying gamemodes breaks completely. More specifically, starting at some frame rate the icon begins to rotate less and less with frame rate until it stops rotating completely, with the exception of dash orbs and slopes. This effect was given this rather dubious name after one line in ChrisCredible's video PLAYING GEOMETRY DASH AT 2000 FPS, at 6:26.

Calculations

Because the cause of this effect is unknown, these calculations were derived purely from empirical values (i.e., through testing and observation). It turns out it is possible to calculate the minimum frame rate where this effect occurs by multiplying the square of the player speed by:

Note that these values are not exact, and there often is some weirdness that varies the cutoff. As an example, the calculated value for the mini wave is 15210 Hz, yet at 15209 Hz the effect still occurs, albeit only from y values 128 to 256 and above 512 (1.26 to 5.53 and above 14.06 blocks above ground). At 15208 Hz the effect only occurs below y value 128 and above 512.

For completeness, the values found empirically were:

Similar phaenomena

Before the release of 2.2, there was a very similar effect involving the cube, where above ≈16 kFPS the cube starts to rotate on the floor. This is most notable in some silent levels like Thanks Level by FancyDoesGD. There is also a similar effect involving the cube where it stops rotating when it touches the floor in certain conditions, visible in RAIN by Skyyee. From what I remember having last tested it years ago, it occurs in a specific FPS range (the 7200 FPS version does not have this) and on a specific x position range.
